I love how people want try to garner sympathy for opening businesses and then getting a poor reputation because they refused customers on a discriminatory basis.

Newsflash, the basis for customer discrimination lies in the fact that as a business owner you are required to provide the services you advertise to everyone regardless of race, gender, sexuality, etc.

If you can't do that, then don't operate a business. It's really that simple.

In Decemeber of last year, Betty and Richard Odgaard agreed on a settlement based on a lawsuit filed by a gay couple wanting to get married at the historic church turned bistro and art gallery. However, the Odgaards would not agree to welcome the unity of same-sex marriages at their venue. As a result, they chose to no longer entertain weddings for all couples.

“We could either maintain a position to be at risk for future or subsequent claims of discrimination or we could get clear out of serving the wedding industry. That’s what we chose to do.”

Gortz Haus’ art gallery and bistro remains open.

This is from January 2015, so at the time they only stopped doing weddings - they didn't close their business completely.

They had to close they might as well have put a sign up saying free gay weddings, pending your law suit. Don't act as though they had a choice when they didn't.

People often settle out of court on lawsuits it's very common and by nature a voluntarily act.

I have been in several lawsuits that I have won. I never went to trial with any of them. It's just better to take the settlement sometimes when you factor in lawyer fees and the possibility you might get an unfavorable judgement.

Bhahahaaaaahha. Poor them. Open a business, treat people equally. That's it.
