Ted Cruz lies about Christian couple who refused gay wedding
US presidential candidate Ted Cruz has released a misleading new campaign video, in which he interviews an ‘inspirational’ Christian couple who closed their wedding business rather than serve gay couples.
Dick and Betty Odgaard stopped hosting weddings at Gortz Haus Gallery in Iowa after they were sued by a gay couple they turned away in 2013.
The video would have you believe that the Mennonite couple were forced to close because of their religious beliefs.
‘We didn’t have a choice,’ says Betty, who insists they ‘have no hatred toward gay people.
But the Odgaards were only fined $5,000. It was because of their unwillingness to comply with the state’s anti-discrimination laws that they chose to stop hosting and providing flowers for and catering weddings in December. This led to a loss in profits and the gallery is shutting its doors for good in August.
In the video, Cruz repeatedly calls the gallery a ‘church,’ which is also incorrect. The Odgaards converted the former church into a gallery, flower shop and bistro in 2008 – so it is now a business.
‘Our country was founded by people who risked everything for religious liberty, free of the government getting in the way,’ says the Republican Texas senator.
‘Your story is powerful. Your story is inspirational and inspires me, and inspires millions of believers.’
At the end of the video, Cruz calls of viewers to join his rally for ‘religious liberty’ in Des Moines next month.

Okay...

So they WERE forced to close because of their religious beliefs. The choice was either cater to homosexuals or shut down.

I see no lies. Keep on Cruzing, Ted.
you tried
they CHOSE to stop performing weddings... they weren't forced to
and they closed the business after it failed due to loss of profits after they chose to stop doing weddings just because they didn't want a gay wedding to take place in their business
they CHOSE to stop performing weddings... they weren't forced to
They were forced to perform homosexual weddings, something which is against their religion. They were fined thousands of dollars for refusing. You TRIED.

hoe does that equate to being FORCED to close down when they chose to stop doing weddings and then they closed down because they couldn't any patrons for the gallery?

Homosexuals came and said "I want to rent your gallery for a 'wedding' " and the Odgaards declined. Then they got sued by these money-seeking gays and lost $5,000.
So yeah, if the law was changed so they couldn't get sued for "discrimination" they would probably still be open.
