They're not trying to stop Katy. They're trying to stop the archbishop. But since another 3 of the nuns are undecided between Katy or Hollister, it's up the judge to decide who's going to get the right to sell the convent eventually.

They should just sell it to Katy. Hollister, although she is offering an extra million dollar, is not offering nearly as much money upfront. And if she gets the convent, she'll turn it into a hotel which the residents of the neighborhood do not want. And that's not gonna sit well with the reputation of the nuns in the neighborhood.
