1989 (...the standard, at least) is perfect pop music.
The perfect mix of melodic gold, bubbly/relatable lyricism, with-the-times aesthetic and personality.
So the long way of saying generic and middle of the road

Selegend stabilises in the Top 10 and Feedmi stabilises in the...Top 25? Ugh I can't at how much Selegend won. At least with Brave/Applongevity they both sold well. A mess at "Andy Grammer" and "Sam Hunt" and "Sam Hunt" performing more successfully than a basic, generic Max Martin lead singel.
People who think there are some sort of deeper messages and connections in them, and call her 'lyrical genius'
Has she ever written about anything else besides her boy drama? And Katy drama...
She hasn't struggled enough to write anything else than ''boy drama'' songs, but her songs still are amazing and the lyrics are art, so yeah, you're half right half pressed

Her lyrics always seemed very shallow, superficial and cliche to me. I never found her play on words interesting, her themes are repetitive.
Yes, pop girls are not the best lyricists, and most of them don't write most of their songs, but I'm sure almost every pop girl, except Beyst, has a song they have written, which is lyrically more interesting than any Taylor Swift song.
The central metaphor of Clean (for esampel) is like expertly constructed... and BS has the best lyrics of any #1 hit this side of SFTTR.
