The Sun exposes young Queen Elizabeth's Nazi salute
MESSSS
Quote:
Buckingham Palace has reacted with fury after a photograph of the Queen performing a Nazi salute as a young girl was published by The Sun last night.
The shocking 1933 footage shows Edward VIII teaching the seven-year-old future Queen and her three-year-old sister Princess Margaret, how to do the Nazi salute in the gardens at Balmoral.
The publication of the footage, which appears as part of a 17-second film, will cause outrage across the nation.
The Queen, aged just seven when the footage was filmed, cannot be held responsible for her actions as an innocent girl playing with her family.
Buckingham Palace last night slammed The Sun for the publication of the footage, obtained from the family's private archive, saying it is 'disappointing' that the film has been 'obtained and exploited in this manner'.
A palace spokesman defended the footage, saying: 'It is disappointing that film, shot eight decades ago and apparently from her Majesty's personal family archive, has been obtained and exploited in this manner.'
She was seven. She almost certainly had no idea what the gesture meant. She was just copying what Edward VIII was doing, which is what children tend to do.
There's been long speculation that several members of the royal family were privately nazi supports, i'm not surprised they tried to pass that mess onto the future ruler.
