"Madonna created the world we live in" - Diplo
Quote:
Diplo thinks Madonna pretty much "created the world we live in".
The 36-year-old musician produced seven songs on the iconic singer's latest album Rebel Heart, including her hit track B***h I'm Madonna.
The 56-year-old songstress has been a victim of ageism recently, with many critics slamming her for being too old to release pop music, but Diplo thinks the criticism is unwarranted.
"She created the world we live in," he told Rolling Stone magazine. "It already sucks to be a woman in the music industry, but to be a boss woman is even harder. She sold out her tour in minutes, but no one seems to want her to succeed -- 'Madonna, we've been there, done that, now we're about Kim Kardashian'. Her song Ghosttown was a guaranteed Number One for anybody else, but she didn't get a fair shot. With B***h I'm Madonna, everyone said there's no way it will go anywhere, but I'm like, 'Screw it, it represents you more than anything.'"

Whether you love Madonna or you hate her, this statement is one of the most true statements I have ever read in my life. I have been constantly saying over the past few months that the flopping of "Ghosttown" is one of the most tragic, undeserved flops in a very, very long time, and that if someone younger had released it, it'd have been a HUGE hit.

Anyway, Diplo didn't tell a single lie. From ^that, to saying she basically created the world we live in. The Queen/God of music.

I agree, she paved the way for many of our faves. Queen of women!

Madonna just doesn't put the umph in her voice needed to pull Ghost town off. It'd be number one if Katy, Rihanna, Gaga, etc... sang it but Mother Pop just sounds unenthused, lifeless.

Modern pop stars owe their careers to her.
Think: what would a pop star look like today if Madonna hadn't existed? How would they behave?
Food for thought.

If you're going to insult Madonna, at least get creative.

I agree with the statement about her impact, she paved the way for all female popstars and she has inspired all of them.
In the other hand, I don't agree with the Ghosttown thing, non of the songs in the albums sounds like a hit IMO.

It's far more so is related to her age, though.
(Not you, those who snubbed her. )

Rome wasn't built in a day. Keep fighting that ageism, Queen!
I disagree w/ Ghosttown being a guaranteed number one. It's a good song but nothing is guaranteed.

 I'm so tired of deaf critics. "Ghosttown" has a very weak hook. It wasn't a hit song, period. Y'all act like Nicki, Katy, Rih, Bey, Gaga, and the likes never have any flops themselves. If Madonna released "Music" today and it was the world's first time hearing it it would be a top ten hit. What she needs is an ACTUALLY GOOD SONG.

This tbh, her impact is undeniable but Ghosttown would have flopped regardless of the artist. It's such a generic and boring track.

if Ghosttown went to someone who didn't have Croconaw vocals, then maybe it would have done better

The fact that you had to post the "Croconaw" picture means the reference and joke failed.
Anyway, it's irrelevant. If "American Girl" had been released by Katy Perry, it probably would've gone #1, so sometimes star power and age do play a role in a song's chart success.

Diplo easily gets on my nerves, but then he goes and says redeeming things like this and I have to give him another chance.
