No one ever tells an actual ugly person that they're ugly in real life.
I used to have beaver cheeks and horrible acne. My younger sister has always been good looking, so it was always awkward when my mom would introduce us to her friends and they would be like "nice to meet you" and then say to my sister, "you're a beautiful little thing and you look just like your mama."
But, now when they see me they'll say in a surprised voice, "you look so good" or "you've grown into a handsome young man."

Which is still awkward, because you're basically saying I was ugly without saying it.
And I was always nice, so kids never bothered me or said anything about me to my face.
Now, that I've glo'd up, I'm a lot more straightforward.
