Children are not brainwashed with religion. Religion is an integral part of culture and culture is learned and passed down to every generation. By eradicating religion, you're just leading everyone into moral relativism. You cannot force everyone into just one way of thinking or make them subscribe to one particular worldview which is exactly the reason why religions exist in the first place.
Um, I'm sorry but I have to call BS. Kids (like me) are taught from the very beginning that their religion is the 100% truth. In some cases they are sent to church, christian schools, made to memorize bible verses and a whole bunch of stuff from when they are younger. They're told about Heaven and Hell and told if they don't do what God says they're going to Hell to burn forever and similar things. If you're brought up around religion then it's like you're being indoctrinated.
Theists on ATRL need to chill the **** down
Someone reported This post for Nicknames
Seriously? Nicknames?
What is this? You seriously think a "theist" went and reported that because it offended their faith or whatever, and not just some pressed Gaga hater looking to give as many WP's they can?
The U.S. was indeed based upon Christian values. Being secular doesn't necessarily mean a society cannot adopt the values and principles of a particular religion or abandon the influence of religion altogether. Most Christian-majority countries are secular but that does not erase the fact that their values were based on or derived from mostly from Christianity. In fact, not only the U.S., but the entire western civilization was based upon Christianity hence why Christianity is often referred to as a "western religion" especially here in the East. Every past civilization and society was founded on the values and principles of their respective religions. It was religion that was largely responsible for providing a particular civilization or society its needed moral framework and it is also religion which mostly dictates the norms in that society which is evident of the fact that some human behaviours are deemed aberrant and deviant in some cultures while the same behaviours are considered normal in others.
And yet, establishment of Christianity is nowhere to be found in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.
Hey guys. I got into an argument with my crush/queer platonic relationship friend about Jesus ever existing. I argued that he never existed and he came at me with all this "evidence" from articles on the internet, which I may add, were completely BIAS.
But it generated one question to ask. Do you guys believe in Jesus? Like, do you believe a man going by the name of Jesus ever existed around that time? Give me an answer fellow atheists.
Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed historically, and historians consider the Synoptic Gospels (Mark, Matthew and Luke) to be the best sources for investigating the historical Jesus. Most scholars agree that Jesus was a Galilean, Jewish rabbi who preached his message orally, was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman prefect, Pontius Pilate. In the current mainstream view, Jesus was an apocalyptic preacher and the founder of a restoration movement within Judaism, although some prominent scholars argue that he was not apocalyptic. Scholars have correlated the Synoptic accounts with non-Christian historical records to arrive at an estimated chronology of Jesus' life. The widely accepted calendar era (abbreviated as "AD", sometimes alternatively referred to as "CE") counts from a medieval estimate of the birth year of Jesus.
So yes, Jesus Christ was likely a real person.
However, that obviously does not excuse all of the harm that the religion using him as a central figure has caused.

I haven't really looked into it but I do think it's possible he was a real person
My family is pretty religious and putting a lot of pressure on me to make a commitment to Christ, and obviously since I am an atheist/agnostic that ain't happening
I'm gonna have to "come out" soon they're gonna be really heart broken and probably will think the devil got me or something
Hey Pretty hurts and Gedmara! What's up? To PH, I feel the same way my dad was just lecturing me omln not going to church anymore and my mom made a point to tell me she prayed for me I don't know what they'd do but Its whatever.

The existence of Jesus is a universally accepted historical fact like it's not even up for debate anymore. And all the arguments against his existence have already been refuted by modern academia.
There is no absolute neutrality on a philosophical standpoint. If you don't expose children to religion, you're potentially raising them as atheists. Atheism has no doctrines thus simply recquires absence of religious inculcation. If you teach them about your own religion, they're likely to grow as theists. Moreover, if you don't teach and shape them, someone else will. So it's up to the parents to how they want to raise their kids. Most parents pass their beliefs on to their children. It's part of parenting and society's way of cultural imprinting. There is no other way to pass one's culture, tradition and religion to the next generation but to teach them to kids at a young age. What's important is that no one's freedom of religion is being violated.

I've never really done any research on this because it's frankly irrelevant whether he actually existed or not. It's the supernatural elements of this story (resurrection, sacrifice for "all of humanity" and so forth) what make him a religious figure, not that he merely existed.
Also, there are atheistic doctrines, the most prominent and embraced is Humanism.
I've been so confused recently. I've always been so firm on being atheist but I've been questioning that and wondering if I would like to follow a religion. I just don't want to force it, like it's got to be the right one for me. Idk
