Chaka, who was interviewed by the Stay with Me crooner, said: 'We’ve been talking and talking and talking for a long time, and we are set to do something together.'
Sam Smith has loads of famous musician pals he could collaborate with, from Taylor Swift to Ed Sheeran, but it seems the Brit award winner is really putting his soul into his next partnership – and plans on laying down a track with funk legend Chaka Khan.
The Stay With Me crooner , 23, first met 62-year-old disco diva Chaka at the end of last year when he interviewed her for V magazine, after revealing she was his idol.
Apparently the pair got on like a house on fire and now text each other every day – and are planning on heading into the studio to make music. Amazing.
Speaking at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club on Monday night, where she just completed her second residency within the last nine months, Chaka reveals the only reason the soulful pals haven’t laid down a hit yet is because they both have hectic schedules.
She says: “Sam Smith and I are really good friends and he would have been here tonight had it not been for the fact he has just started his own tour.
“We’ve been talking and talking and talking for a long time, and we are set to do something together.
This will be interesting and probably will not happen in a while, since she stopped a concert and cried because she had vocal problems on a Dutch festival a few days ago
