You should make a recovery disc regardless if you decide to update or not, it's just prudent

. Here's instructions, hit USB recovery drive (but you can use a dvd if you want).

You don't need anything for the update itself. The computer will just quietly prepare itself via Windows Update and then tell you it's going to upgrade to 10. Then it will take a while to install but you'll retain all your files/programs.

Or that's how my Insider preview upgraded, anyway. I'm assuming the official rollout will be done the same way for those who reserved a copy of 10.

It will be very simple to upgrade.

Thank you! I was so confused on if I should just update or not. My pc is already a year old and I haven't created a recovery disk. Should I reset or refresh my pc before making the disk?

Nah, you don't have to do either. But you should definitely back up important personal files on an external hard drive (or dvd, or usb, or whatever) before doing anything, never know when something could go wrong. The recovery disc doesn't save your personal files, it just makes it easier to reload your operating system if something does go wrong.
