Apropos of the whole Ariana/donut situation...

Why is it completely vital for Americans to say that they love their country every five minutes? Why do Americans immediately start bashing other Americans who say that they dislike something about their country? What is it with Americans and pride?

I have never encountered any other country that has so much pride for their country. I'm from Sweden, and we go around saying that we hate Sweden every other second, no matter the reason. And no one cares about that. It's not a big deal, because people understand that we're not that serious about what we're saying.

Discuss the absurdity that is American pride.

It's because patriotism is generally encouraged and viewed favorably.

However, I know plenty of people who are extremely unhappy with the state of the nation, but they aren't put down for it.

Americans have nothing to be proud of considering their country was built on the genocide and enslavement of others, but WERK!
