Good Girl Gone Bad > Rated R.
At the time I like many people didn't care too much for the era until Rude Boy. It felt too rough and dark unlike her last era.

The Eminem Show/8 Mile -> Encore
How do you go from recording quality hip-hop staples like "Lose Yourself" and "Cleanin' Out My Closet" to releasing atrocious trash like "Just Lose It" and "Ass Like That" over the course of 2 years?

Well Like a Prayer came between those two. And Justify my Love, a number one hit.

Considering what went on between, it's not unwarranted at all. It's a bit jarring, but understandable.
