the underlying tension was always Brandi's inclusion to the group, now that they don't have to deal with her it should be obvious that a lot of their problems, particularly in the context of the show, would be alleviated

I disagree with the second part. There was already tension between Lisa and Kyle when Taylor exposed Kyle for talking about Lisa behind her back (that she has a huge ego, she's manipulative, she preys on the weak). Brandi didn't even know Lisa at that point.
Kyle has always been jealous of Lisa and still is. The only reason why she hasn't crossed her this year is that after years and years of trying she finally accepted that the viewers won't ever take her side over Lisa's. And as Kyle once said to Brandi "I will ALWAYS know who Lisa is".
