I can't at some of these people coming for country music because of songwriting topics …
If you look at pop music it's pretty much the same thing (same topics and lyrics / trends in beats).
It's not all about driving and smoking and all that ******** .. if you think like that then you need to be educated.
Amazing artists such as Carrie Underwood and other great artists can prove this whole thread wrong.
Educated yourself / try new things before pulling the trigger on the gun.
I like REAL country music. In fact, I used to only listen to country music and hated pop. But country has changed so much now. Every song is the same. They're becoming more generic than pop music; all of these up and coming artists, and even some of the more established artists, are all just releasing songs about drinking and partying, and it's AWFUL. I do like some country, though. I don't listen to it as much anymore, though, except for the Dixie Chicks and a few other artists.
It's awful, bland, there's always similar male and female voices, that awful banjo or whatever. These reasons are enough for all the world besides US and Canada to never use such an awful genre. Thanks god I don't live in US
There are some promising acts on country music (besides Taylor S of course) like Sam Hunt (Take Your Time) and Kacey Musgraves with her Pageant Material album. If I Die Young was one of my favorite songs of 2011 too, Kimberly Perry slays, I believe if she wanted she could easily crossover to pop.
Before the name change in the 40s it was called hillbilly music.
Translated to European equivalent: schlager music:
Dutch:
German:
At least we started updated schlagers with electronic sounds since the 80s.
It's just that plebeian category of music for the age group of your parents. However it isn't because 99% of the genre is trash that there isn't a good 1%.
Kacey Musgraves is interesting, finally someone exposing the real life behind the window dressing. Just like Lorde sings about the life of people like you and me versus rappers singing about the riches far far away from the average Joe.
Katy did a good job of promoting Kacey and the genre at CMT Crossroads by altering the sound. Their beautiful Bonnie Raitt - I Can't Make You Love Me cover.
Banjos are the worst stringed instruments ever.
The twang is disgusting in song form.
Their slang terms are cringeworthy.
Their single and albums covers are so basic. [Every male artist has posed with one hand in his pocket with a big ugly sans serif font plastered over it]
To me, they all sound the exact same.
I hate it when a guy sings the bg vocals in a song by a woman.
I just HATE it. Shania Twain is the only exception and that's bc the country my family comes from worships her.
I love country music. Johnny Cash, Dolly, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Mark Chesnut, Alan Jackson, Lee Ann Womack, Tracy Lawrence, Clint Black, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Martina McBride, Carrie, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Brandy Clark, Ashley Monroe, Holly Williams etc.
I just can't stand bro country. All of these beer drinking and "scoot your tanned legs over to the middle of my truck" songs have RUINED country music. Though, I am glad that the girls are holding it down as far as creativity goes. They are the ONLY reason why I still have Nashville radio stations programmed in my car.
Although, I do like some of Luke Bryan's music, and Jason Aldeans "Wide Open", their recent music is apart of the bro country movement that I find appalling. I won't listen to that shite, but I do listen to the other stuff
I like country music so maybe I shouldn't be replying here.
But, I think that mostly it's a genre where you have to kind of get used to it to really get it. Usually, with good country at least, the emphasis is more on the lyrics and story telling than on the music or the beat and I would say most people are used to more accessible genres and don't have a background in country (nothing wrong with that) so they don't give country much of a chance and write it off as boring or dull or only focus on the more immediate and poppy songs about drinking and trucks.
I love country music. I adore Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Tom T. Hall, Porter Wagoner, and many others. It's most of the "country music" being released today that I don't like. A lot of the music coming out of Nashville today doesn't even sound like country. Jimmie Rodgers is probably turning in his grave. Bro country needs to die.
