Say what you want about Gaga, but her heart was always in the right place.
Others, not so much.

Mte. I also give Nick a pass because 1) I genuinely enjoy his music, and have even before he went solo 2) he does try to raise awareness and does activism, even if it's not as obvious as Gaga.
I think it becomes problematic when you have celebs like Justin who clearly pander to boost sales, when they've never cared for LGBT before. Or even to use my own faves as an example: One Direction, early on, gained popularity by pretending to be gay with each other every time a camera was around. It was a clear and calculated grasp at the gay community's attention because they knew that their fans were mostly gays and horny teen girls. Now that they're all grown up, you have them backtracking and throwing fits whenever someone hints at them being gay. And afaik, none of them actually do any kind of philanthropy like Gaga has done. You even have female celebs who say "I support gays" or employ gay backup dancers and stylists, but when it comes to actually speaking up for us when it matters, they are always silent.
There's a very clear difference between genuine respect and pandering, and I think we all know who tends to be guilty of the latter.
