Nintendo's games will always be cartoony, yes. It works for their games, and it's flawless the way it is. But the reason people are upset about this possibility is because of the lack of 3rd party support. 3rd party companies shunned the WiiU because its processing power wasn't up to par, and they had to do way more to make WiiU specific versions of their games.
This means that Nintendo is missing out on an audience of hardcore gamers who generally don't want to have to shell out $600 a pop for multiple consoles. Nintendo could make the NX THE console to buy, able to play exclusive Nintendo games AND all the 3rd party games at the same quality (or better) than the PS4 and XB1. If this rumor is true, we're going to end up with just another WiiU situation where people are shelling out $400 to play a couple Nintendo exclusives. Personally, I love Nintendo, but we're at a point now where all these consoles are basically high powered PCs. I expect them to be able to run and process at the similar quality levels. For most people, the safer purchase will continue to come from Microsoft or Sony, because they're sure to get great games AND great graphics. Not just one or the other.
