Dead @umbrella being more iconic than the entire 1989 era. That song is already forgotten. Havnt heard it on the radio for years, no one ever mentioned about it other than the atrl navy, even rihanna herself forgot about that song dead.
How is this even a question. Yes Umbrella was huge but that's about it. Not only has 1989 already outsold her "biggest" era in the US, but it is about to outsell it WW and in less than a year. Oh and it's 2015 when sales are supposed to be dying. I understand that the Navy clings to the GGGB era like a new born chimp clings to their mothers teet, but let's not be delusional for once.
When people say umbrella alone is bigger than 1989 they don't mean sales. They mean that it felt bigger. Everybody remembers umbrella and at the time it was inescapable.
You may not remember beause you were too young or you may think Taylor is bigger because you are from the US but worlwide the era hasn't been that impactful

Yet it's still sold more outside the US than all of her contemporaries latest efforts
1989 feels way bigger, it will end up selling more, have a much bigger tour and Taylor was literally everywhere; meanwhile even though GGGB was huge i don't feel Rihanna had as much impact like she did with Loud.
Plus 1989 is not done, Taylor has at least 2 singles left up her sleeve.
Granted Umbrella was massive but so was shake it off.
It had an awful lead single, BS did really well I'll give you that, but it hasn't made any impact and her aim at having an 'iconic' video failed because it was paired with a local single
Like, maybe it's cause I'm not from the US that I'm not witnessing all the success (which I'm not) or hearing all her songs on the radio (which I'm not), but all I can say is GGGB has had a lot more impact WW
