No. Ariana Grande's My Everything got Platinum under the regular system. Streams were not included, the RIAA has confirmed this. Ariana is just a case of overcertification. This also happened recently with Yeezus, which was certified Platinum, despite being well short of this sales threshold.
RIAA does not use streams to certify albums. This may change in the future though.

Why does it not surprise me that Kanye West would overcertify his albums???

The relative extreme failure of Katy Perry's soundalike "Birthday" is that much more perplexing. Especially since yet was released before "Sugar" with an almost identical video concept.

So we have had only one 3M seller released this year, and we're already halfway through the year.

But it looks like we will wind up with four 5 million sellers from 2014 too. All About That Bass and Uptown Funk are already there, and Thinking Out Loud and Shake It Off should also get there by the end of 2015. Uptown Funk is past 6 million, and looks like it will hit 7 million by Thanksgiving 2015, and maybe 8 million by the end of 2016. So maybe (hopefully) there is (are) hope some song(s) will come out and surprise us. Sugar will pass 3 million within the next month. I hope something will come out later this year that changes things.

If estimates are right, UF should hit 6.3 million this week (total, not just 2015). I need a link for confirmation though to update this list, so maybe if UF hits that mark they will provide one. We will wait and see. UF is closing in fast on 5 million for the year though. I know it'll reach 5.5, but to reach 6 mil for the 2015 calendar year UF would need to get to total sales of 7.3-7.4 million by the end of 2015. I know nearly half the year is left, and there are a few boosts left, but I still think 7.15 is about where UF will be at the end of 2015.

I just thought about this Monday. Watch out for Take Your Time, though technically it's 2014, not 2015. It's already sold over 1.4 million copies, and it's just really beginning to catch on at Top 40, while it's already fairly firmly established at Adult Top 40 and AC. Girl Crush I'm not as sure about (it is borderline 2014/15, I need to check the release date, because its WOC has it back to New Years), since it hasn't reached Top 40 yet (where TYT is now Top 30 in spins). TYT could be a big crossover hit. Both it and GC are where they are without remixes for mainstream radio, so if they get remixes, that'll boost their sales more.
