To be honest, it's just a day off from work for ppl in the country. Nobody really cares about the history behind the day.

Aside from Thanksgiving and Christmas, holidays = day off from work; nothing more, nothing less.

Honestly, as an immigrant, I don't really feel too much on ID, so I can see why someone who didn't gain independence wouldn't feel too much about the day.

Not really. 1. Because even though Im an American citizen I don't really celebrate it I still see myself as Jamaican first. And 2.. Ehh. Its just an excuse to go to a BBQ wear patriotic colors and drink for me.

I think most citizens celebrate it. I would if I were home I love bbqs. I miss my parents cooking

I don't have to make myself feel comfortable seeing that my family didn't step foot into the US until my grandparents moved here. Yes, slavery was a terrible and disgusting part of our history, but just like every country has their own atrocities, we MOVE ON. You don't see the Jews crying about the Holocaust and hating the Germans everyday and that happened just 70 or so years ago. Quit trying to blame your faults on our past and do better for yourself.
