US kind of picks up a bit late. She was literally having her name spread out so easily as early as August 2008 in a handful of great markets. The moment it got a bit of worldwide recognition, the US had no choice but to pick up as well.

None of these artists had Just Dance sized hits. Not even close. So no, Just Dance is a very unique win for Gaga. It sparked the biggest pop era this Millennium and the biggest star.

I didn't say the major popstars' hits were bigger than Just Dance. I'm just explaining the fact as to why Just Dance took forever to smash and that's because dance pop is really new on that time and that only major popstars were able to make hits out of it.

And Hung Up is definitely just as big as Just Dance outside the US. Just look at its peaks and chart runs.

I think we can credit Gaga as one of those artists alongside Britney, Rihanna and Madonna who paved the way to this trend on happening and staying for 8 years straight.

I remember I listened to it for the first time in MadonnaNation, someone posted it there, I love it since the first time I heard it.

Back in August 2008, the official video to When I Grow Up by Pussycat Dolls featured the entire song at the end, what kind of weird promo thinking about it. I remember thinking she was an old irrelevant act returning for a comeback.

Even if you weren't a fan, Gaga was must-see tv and can't-miss entertainment. There was a palpable excitement in the air every time she did something for 2 straight years. That's how it's supposed to be when you're a big pop star. The only time I've felt that recently was when Beyoncé released her last album. I don't get that at all with these younger/newer pop stars on the scene. It's kind of surreal when you look at the pop star lineage through the last 3 decades. The general standards have fell so much but I digress.

I don't know if she will make a comeback to the forefront of pop music but I do think she was good for the musical climate.
