Only on ATRL can Hilary Duff be declared a legend and an icon.
People like Michael Jackson and Madonna can be declared true legends and icons.

I think an icon is someone who everyone imitates, i know this is not the best example but in her time, avril lavigne was an icon.
Legeng is someone with talent who marked the industry, like MJ.

An Icon on the other hand is more leaning towards their influence on fashion, politics, music, etc.

Perfect.....

Beyonce & Britney>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The only female icons of the past 10 years... Because in and out of their respected races many many many girls imitated and wanted to be them. This doesn't even cause for debate because everyone knows its true.
Not to mention Wikipedia lists them as icons....

"Many still-living celebrities also attain the status of pop icon; solo recording artists such as Madonna, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox, David Bowie and Janet Jackson as well as musical groups such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, U2, and The Who are examples."

I don't think any of them except Britney and Beyonce will ever be legends, but all of them have been or are currently icons. If that makes any sense.

I was thinking you wouldn't notice...
Anyway yeah we do need a male legend, but neither Justin nor Usher cut it. They're too perfect, too boring. I'll keep waiting.

Well the only 3 we have are Chris, Justin, & Usher.
Usher is boring.
Chris is really hated right now.
Justin is just well Justin is Justin.
We just need to make a mega male star.
Chris's dancing
Usher's voice
Justin's star power. BAM!

Sometimes I feel like just cause someone is older doesn't mean they should be able to be called a legend.

I agree with most of your list. I feel as if majortiy of the "icons" you labeled will eventually shift over to legends depending on their longtivity. And eventually artists like Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Ciara, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, etc. would be icons depending on how long they last as well.
I could see Beyonce, Britney , JT etc. being labeled as legends in the next 50 years
