Of course there's monogamy in the gay community. Me and my boyfriend are monogamous, he himself already told me he doesnt believe in monogamy within the gay community, but that's because he had a bad experience in the past. I dont think I would ever cheat my partner, if things stopped working out, I would simply just end it before doing something that might hurt him.

Monogamy is something you talk about with your partner. If both of you want to be that way then yeah it'll be easy because it what the two of you want. Don't get me wrong you'll always have temptation there, but if you stick with the great willpower you have then you'll be alright. Me personally i'd rather it be that way plus I'm a one man type of guy so it always works for me.

i don't believe that gays can be monogamous. straight guys cheat as well as gays but they likely stop cheating if they become the fathers. furthermore, gay guys generally have a much bigger ego than straight guys which can kill a relationship

I've been in a monogamous relationship for over a year now

It pisses me off when gays say they don't believe in it, you don't take yourself seriously as a partner, and you don't take other homosexuals seriously as partners

You're basically confirming what straights think: a gay relationship is less valuable than a straight relationship

You just have to find someone with the same ethics and mindset as you when it comes to relationships. The problem of gays not being "faithful" has little to do with them being men, and more-so to do with coming out in a community that says promiscuous sex is normal. Which that problem stems from something before our time, being a part of a community when you had to hide what you do from almost everyone, which sexualized being gay by force.

This so much. The beginning of the gay rights movement was very much about sexual freedom. Not really the wholesome family/marriage movement it is today, which was a great swift, because it validates our relationships and sexuality in society and makes everyone else take into account we are humans as well. We saw the wonderful results of this in Ireland.

There's still a lot sex-focused culture (probably most of it) in the gay community, but we can't complain.

Definitely possible - but of the two "mature" couples I know who are in long-term relationships, one is currently "open" and the other they had some weird polygamous thing going on for a few months with this young, dumb guy. Ugh I hated him.

This is emotional. Let monogamy among the gays begin! We can now, legally, commit ourselves to another person.

(well, NZ actually got gay marriage two years ago - but morals/ethics/social norms do not change in mere years, but decades)

I think that people in here don't understand the difference between monogamy and cheating.

If you enjoy being in an open-relationship and monogamy is not for you, fine. If that doesn't work out for you and you want one sexual partner only, go find yourself a partner who wants the same.

I think it's rather difficult to portray monogamy as the real deal. It's not. At least not to everybody. And I hate the tendency where you are judgemental towards other concepts that are not yours.

this is such a stupid and egocentric mindset to think from....... just because something has worked for you and been convenient for you doesn't mean it has worked or been convenient for everyone else and thusly how are they supposed to feel about monogamy / relationships if they've had nothing but bad experiences?

cute for you that you've found someone good, don't take it for granted and hope he never cheats on you or does you wrong but the fact of the matter is that not everyone thinks like you and your boyfriend, what i've experience and what a lot of my friends have experienced from the gay community is that they're not so keen on total monogamy. maybe i'll get proven wrong someday but i can think whatever i want based on what i've experienced.

There´s not that stupid kind of receipt. I spoke from my experience and even from the personal stories of gay guys that i know, that´s why i use "believe"
You delusional twinks just see the world through the pink glasses and are so laughable for claiming your relationships are monogamous just because they last for..5 or 6 years ?
