Was dancing ever really a thing before Madonna and Michael Jackson, though? Elvis doesn't count
Yea. People like Jackie Wilson and James Brown, who are two of Michael's biggest influences.

The industry has become very image-driven. Some really can't dance and hell, some can't really sing but they have a marketable look.
But we have some who still slay the choreo: Janet, Ciara, Bey, Tinashe, Dawn Richard, J.Lo maybe. I need Mya to make a comeback of some kind because she can dance ha ass off.
As for the men, idk. Every so often Usher and Chris dust off their dancing shoes.
She's the only "new" girl on the pop scene that I've seen put so much into her dancing other than maybe Tinashe. I'm hoping for lots of choreography during her upcoming era.
I love Selena, and her new material has me on the verge of stanning, but this is just wrong. Tinashe more than any of the new pop stars, puts the most effort into the entire performance - dancing and choreo in particular. This makes it sound like Selena puts more effort into it than Tinashe and I just have to disagree with this.
Because choreographed dance routines are super dated and cheesy. Performing now is more about moving around stage and feeling the moment (e.g. Robyn, Banks)
My faves are talented musicians who only need their voices a guitar or a piano to entertain people on stadiums or arenas for 2+ hours, maybe if your fave needs to dance her/his ass off to entertain the public is because her/his music is not enough or maybe he/she needs to change ha career and be a ballerina, the biggest touring acts in the world don't dance
THE ROLLING STONES
U2
MADONNA (Not dancer)
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
ELTON JOHN
CELINE DION
DAVE MATTHEWS BAND
KENNY CHESNEY
BON JOVI
BILLY JOEL
THE POLICE
etc
etc
This post makes 0 sense. "Dancing is just for the lulz" ??? Artists dance on tour still and almost nobody's tour has "spectacle" anymore so you're making zero sense. Taylor Swift is probably about to have one of the biggest tours without any spectacle in it. It's just her prancing around, singing some parts, letting the crowd sing the rest and basic choreo (walk here, pose there, shake here, bow, etc.).
-------
The reason dance isn't apart of pop as much is due to the fact most pop artists in recent memory haven't had to dance to garner success (Katy, Rih, Taylor) so labels aren't looking for that kind of talent. However, people like Demi, Selena, Miley, Ariana, Natalie La Rose, Tinashe, are all dancing (on vaious levels), and since they are the next generation of pop it eventually means dancing will come back into style and a new wave of dancing pop stars will flood the scene.

Madonna dances like half her show and Mick dances too.
Madonna dances like half her sow and Mick dances too,
Mick moving around is not choreo and i have seen madonna live twice (Confessions Tour, the best of my life ) and she is not a dancer ala beyonce ((who has a strong voice to sustain those dance moves),). in fact my fave parts of the show were just her and her band

This is the biggest lie ive ever read. Whenever a girl does good choreography people are constantly praising them and saying yaaaaaaaaassss queen!! have you ever even been to a pop concert? whenever a girl busts out some choreo the crowd usually goes wild. gaga was the last pop star to do choreo and look how bug she got. Fifth harmony does a lot of dancing and they are basically one of the biggest girl groups atm. Dancing is NOT dated.

Sure, sis. Madonna is Madonna.. She dances and sings. Beyonce to me is doing nothing Tina Turner didn't do on stage.

Thanks indie music Thanks hipsters Uyll are the killers of pop music .
If you CAN dance, it gives you an edge but I personally don't think it's necessary as long as you can sing. If you can't dance, you can't dance. I don't see it as something that's "in" or "out"... If we excluded every popstar that couldn't dance then we'd definitely miss out on a lot.
