I've always wanted to get a summer job, but I failed to find one every year. Got my first one like a month ago... I turned 17 two days ago & I graduated from HS this month. Must say, working is hard and exhausting as **** and sometimes I wish I didn't do it (still the fact that I work in office not in McDonalds or somewhere you run your ass off)... but I hope it pays off when I get my first full paycheck

True. The only person who didn't inherit a job at one of the two offices as a car insurance salesman was my sister because she became a nurse. Insurance is the family business so every employee bar one is a relative.

I have the bad luck of: hardly knowing anyone in this valley, my valley having one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and my uncle not wanting any more employees at the family business

There's also a lot of older people filling jobs that normally untrained, inexperienced and uneducated teens would do. The whole hierarchy is messed up. People can't afford to retire so they don't. And even if they are retired and collecting SSI or whatever, I know many who are still working.

Then you have all of the menial things that nobody wants to pay for. Like floor sweeps, paper boys, yard mowers, etc. There still isn't enough money in the people's pockets do fund those kinds of jobs. My mom always says "I worked from the time I was 16 and j never went without a job" and all I can say to that is "Bitch, nobody is going to hire a gay male babysitter. Second I don't feel like dealing cocaine. So shut up"

It's a different world than it was in even the 90's.

If I have kids and they do well in school, work hard and don't screw up they will have everything on the other hand if they want to be lazy and think they are just going to be handed a huge pile of cash when I kick the bucket they would be wrong.

My sister is having this problem right now with her kid, he basically pissed away his first year at Michigan and now he is cut off working at Hungry Howies. She called me and made it clear that I am not to give him money for school, rent or a car. He thinks because his dad has millions he has millions and he is wrong. He is going to have nothing at this rate.

A lot of teens I went to high school with were lazy AF and didn't want jobs because they didn't need the money since their parents were getting welfare anyway

I enjoy making my own money and I get super bored if I don't have somewhere to be, like work. My summer job turned into a regular job and a promotion. It's all about what you put into it.

I still go to school (the school is comparable to college), after school I work 5 hours producing lamps for parking garages(2 weeks per month). I have an internship every 2 weeks. So it's always 2 weeks of school and 2 weeks of internship. And some of y'all are too lazy to work during summer?

It's not that hard really, I've been working for an insurance company for over a year now while studying and I've had no issues.

I think teens should have a job by the time they are in college. I got my first job after high school at 18. I was mostly focusing on high school sports and homework. Now two years later, I'm at the same job (I love it) and had several raises. Plus that job has helped me get my current internship. Get some work experience!
