I don't get this "European Standards" thing.

Before the Euro became Greece's currency a bottle of water cost the equivalent of 0.15E, right when we switched to Euro a bottle of water cost 0.50E. Needless to say that it wasn't just the water. Everything doubled or tripled in price though the salaries remained the same. So things started to spiral out of control with people trying to save as much money as possible either by delaying taxes or buying things without receipt (aka cheaper, more cost efficient for both the consumer and the store).

You can blame the Greeks all you want but our politicians chose the Euro, not us. They chose to raise the price of all goods by 100-200% while knowing that they couldn't raise salaries or pensions to accommodate said change. They lied to the other countries giving false info about our financial situation in order to enter the EU. They fooled the other countries just as much as they fooled the Greek society.

One might say, have elections and change government. We did, but everyone who ruled the country for the past 2 decades has been a carbon copy of the previous jerk.

Is the European Standard a pension of 300 Euros? Aka the cost of rent alone? Is it eating out of dumpsters which A LOT of people have resorted to? Is it working a full time job and STILL not being able to pay for food and electricity? You have to understand that we have almost the same cost of living (besides water and rent, which are dirt cheap when compared to most countries) as other European countries while having 1/10th of their monthly income.

You're seeing this situation as an outsider so you're obviously not gonna care as much, or even realize what's happening here. Disability pension is almost 1/3rd of what it used to be 5 years ago (the government practically lowers the disability percentage to most people to the point where some people going through cancer either don't get pension at all or the process takes years until they get it). Sick people get 450 Euro to live with, while rent alone is around 300. Utility bills alone are over 100 euros a month usually, so you get 50 euros to live with per month.

YES stop supporting Greece. You did support Greece but not the Greek people. Europe has offered support and has gave us a ton of money only if the government agreed that said money would NOT go to Greek people, and would go to banks instead.

They helped us? How can Greek people consider them help when they constantly keep asking for pensions and salaries to be lowered even more? The fact is that in Greece minimum wage is 480E per month and rent & utilities are 350/400 a month. How would you be able to make it with ~$100 per month? Food, water, cleaning supplies etc are already more than that, so what if you have a kid as well? And they're now asking for us to cut salaries & pensions even more AND for higher taxes on food, milk etc.

Harsh decisions have been taken for the past 3-4 years and things have been getting consistently worse. People eat out of dumpsters, thousands commit suicide, shops keep closing down one after the other (which in turn hurts future economy even more), hospitals don't even have the required doctors or even basic supplies like medicines etc. This can't keep going on.
