I like the song, I think it's pretty great actually, but for someone as huge worldwide as Shakira, and with another big female as a feature, it should have been a lot bigger (and the song itself should have been very different for the purpose of it, let's be real).

1989 sold 2.6M and counting outside the US. That's about 2M more than Shakira's last album sold WW.


CRTFY didn't outright bomb like Pretty Girls but it was still a non-factor.

Anyway, congratulations to Taylor for her first era ever to not be a complete non-factor outside the US, lets hope one day she becomes global and after 20 years of career maybe we could dare to compare her to Shakira.

Taylor's career is already much bigger and more impressive than Shakira's, let alone in 20 years. But let's stay on topic. I don't think people treat CRTFY as a Pretty Girls-sized flop. It's just that Rihanna, especially in 2013, was much more relevant than Britney and Iggy in 2015, plus everyone here says Shakira's picture is in the dictionary next to the word global, so expectations were high.

No one has ever claimed that. PG flopped, CRTFY underperform. Period.

It's a terrible song. It would be different if it were an enjoyable song that underperformed.

It's not Pretty-Girls-sized but it was a flop for sure. It only has a lot of views on YouTube because they were being lesbians but besides that no one remembers that song.

It's not a flop, it's a moderate Hit and a streaming monster. It not only has +500M views on YT but also +100M streams on Spotify. Those of you claiming the song is bad or messy should educate themselves about a genre called SKA. It's built on a classic SKA rythm and that's simply not what was hot last year in the US. Still it managed to go Top20. That's all.
