No, safe pop stars like Taylor and Selena do not address social issues because they don't want to alienate their conservative fanbases. Only the casual "feminist ;]" comment to appear open-minded, trendy and appealing to the Tumblr crowd. Basically, they only talk about issues if they affect them personally or financially (Like Apple Music not paying them enough money, a fellow popstar 'stealing' their dancers or a breakup). Smart bussiness move but pretty sad in the big scheme of things .
