Gutting it would have been terrible for the Republicans, Hillary would have instantly pivoted to the millions of people losing insurance and all the pressure would be on the Republicans to fix it.

That's actually not true. This could have affected 20 or 30 states that didn't have their own marketplace. This included Illinois. My parents would have been screwed because we would have lost our subsidy. This was more than a fight against red states.

Either way, it would have backed Republicans into a corner and forced them to pass legislation and turn healthcare into an untouchable bipartisan thing like social security.

My state wouldn't have been affected much either way, but slay everyone else
