I don't think the power has been taken out of the N word, despite it's ubiquity in black media. It's still an offensive, racist term, especially when used by non-blacks/latinos.
However, black people sporting the Confederate flag is nothing new. I can't be the only one who remembers the Lil John
Bia Bia video (Thee ultimate turn-up track, btw). They've managed to divorce slavery from the war and see the flag a symbol of Southern heritage. You'd be surprised how many white hipster acquaintances of mine wanted to rip me a new one when I dragged Kanye for that Yeezus mess. They completely thought that he was taking the power out of the flag and that Ye was doing some awesome troll job by sporting that flag and putting it on t-shirts. I told those idiots that they were even dumber than Ye is and that the only thing that's going to come out of Yeezus is more white people and misguided negroes wearing the Confederate flag.
