You're still on the watching dinosaurs on the big screen rush. You'll come back to earth when you watch it again a few more times. The original still holds and is perfect. This one will not.
I feel Avatar was only successful because everyone was saying how successful it was and this is having a similar effect. The buzz is making its numbers go even higher.
Given that ticket prices keep increasing and these are nominal figures, every so many years we are bound to get a new box office record holder. Any real comparison of box office receipts needs to be inflation adjusted.

That is no fun though.
Plus.... if you straight adjust you get the same result because the box office is so much more global now. All of the top WW films are modern because people in many countries simply did not go to theaters 10 or 20 years ago.
