I don't think she's given up at all. She's clearly still expressing herself through fashion. The thing is, she's much curvier now than she was during The Fame/The Fame Monster/Born This Way. Clothes photograph better on tall, lean bodies. It's why models are tall and skinny.
If she's happy and healthy, that's all that matters. But if she's going to embrace her curves, she needs to start dressing for her new body type.
This outfit would have slayed with her Telephone/Born This Way/Judas body.
