David Guetta hits 2 billion Spotify plays milestone

David Guetta has passed the two billion plays milestone on Spotify, becoming the third artist - and the first French one - to do so.
The DJ (pictured) is also the first EDM act to break the barrier, joining the likes of rapper Eminem and singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. Guetta is also the most-followed artist on Spotify, with 6.8m followers, and more than 15m fans listening each month.
Guetta said: “I want to thank you so much for helping me reach this incredible milestone, 2 billion streams on Spotify! Wow, mind blowing!”

He is the first DJ to reach this milestone which is an amazing achievement but looking at how dance is exploding at the moment as a genre, I am sure he will be followed by others very soon. Will Hope, Spotify’s director of label relations, added: “David Guetta is obviously one of the most popular artists on Spotify globally, so him smashing the two billion plays milestone should come as no surprise. But it is worth also noting that he achieved this landmark thanks to his huge fan base of over 15 million fans on Spotify who listen to his music every month, and who together helped him hit this landmark in record time.”
David's most recent single, Hey Mama feat. Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha and long-term collaborator Afrojack has had 95 million global streams so far and is currently No.6 on the Global Spotify charts.

I don't know about his sales success, but he is very popular on the EDM scene, His songs get played constantly at festivals or concerts I go to. Play Hard, Shot Me Down, Bad, Lovers On the Sun, Dangerous and Hey Mama have been everywhere the past year alone. But I'm not from the US, so maybe his music is not that popular there.

He really is popular out of the US. Whatever he releases, you'd also hear in discos and radios in here.
