After speaking out about his plight last month, the 33-year-old vowed to shed weight in order to stay alive, adding that he had been 'touched' by the outpouring of sympathy and offers of help he'd received in the wake of several media interviews.

Mr Thompson said that he was desperate to change his lifestyle after being warned by doctors that his ill health would kill him.
'Any professional opinion or other knowledge would be great,' he said.

Unable to leave the house to go food shopping, the 33-year-old lived on Chinese takeaways and pizzas that he had delivered to his door.

He also claimed to have spent £10 a day on chocolate, relying on state handouts for money.

While Mr Thompson attributed most of his weight gain to the death of his mother, he admitted that he had always 'loved' food.

'I was only about three or four and no one knew why I did it. I would just eat anything out of the cupboards,' he said.

When his mother died of a brain tumour in 2012, he turned to unhealthy food as a means of coping with his grief.

His weight soon doubled from 30stone to 65, leaving him unable to work.

People don't realise that over eating is an eating disorder too. Most people look at anorexic people with pity but they'll look at morbidly obese people with disgust.

This is common sense, this is what they teach you at an early age in school. He should've realized his health would kill him when he needed other people to wash and feed him.

Poor guy. I don't know what he expected. Then again, he would have been severely depressed and would have been treating his depression with an addiction to food. We need to help people before it gets this bad, not judge them. On the other hand, you can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. It's a very complex issue with no real easy solution. You would think "just eat healthy and exercise" would be a lot more simple.
