It isn't. Maybe it was a focal point around the time when I was coming out, but now it means nothing. A couple weeks ago, I was talking to a new coworker during one of her first shifts, and I started talking about the guys in the workplace who attracted me (because what else are we supposed to do?). Literally, no questions asked, we just started talking about guys. There was no "Guess what! I'm gay!" announcement even necessary.
I'm probably just lucky, but among most young people I've come across, being gay is seen as normal (even though it isn't, technically).
Sexual orientation is a big part of you no matter what sexual orientation it is, even being straight. The situation described would not happen if you were not gay. In fact, the situation you described has everything to do with being gay. I don't see your point.
No. I support demonstrations but I would like to see a "down to earth" Parade. Some gays are doing too much and sorry but the general public doesn't think that we're normal at all. Just look at Europe. Many people are still very homophobic and their main problem is that they have stereotypical beliefs and sadly the Pride events are supporting their thoughts. And especially in Europe where we have a multi-party system, the mood can quickly change against the Gays.
I'm personally pissed off by some of the oversexualized gay people. They need some discipline and some of them should remember that we're just 1 - 5 % not 99%.
And to the one who said that "We are different" and we dont need to live like "straight people". So what exactly is a "Gay life"? Does being Gay mean that you shouldn't care about relationships and stability and your main goal in life is to fck around? There is no "straight life". Stop using the term "Gay" as the Adverb to describe yourself as a person. There are many Gay people who want to build a family, some of them even married a woman just to build a family. Just because we're gay doesn't mean that our goals in life aren't the same as the goals of some straight people.

I agree with your second paragraph, so much. We are still seen as thots who don't value any emotional connection. Due to our Queer spaces being oversexualised, full of drugs, meaningless relationships, etc.
Yes, I love gay parades and what they symbolize. I do not feel that gay people have to be apologetic in their behavior as to not offend straight people.

I agree. Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I go around wearing pink/acting super flamboyant. Being gay is just my sexuality.
The entire point of a pride parade is to, well, have pride! Its a celebratory affair for embracing who you are and enjoying life while in the company of people of all kinds. Where I live, regardless of your orientation or any other factor, people go to the pride parade just to have fun. That very fact is reason enough to have pride because it shows how far we have come as a society and how brilliant it is that everyone can come together as a community while also raising awareness for more acceptance and tolerance and also campaigning for LGBTQ rights.
I don't think that's the conclusion reached at all.
Why should people have to act differently than they naturally do in order to please straight people and get "equality"? Also could you explain that last sentence? Because for a very long time all people under the LGBT+ umbrella have fought for rights together.
