These streaming services are the pits.

This part is confusing. The fuss is over Apple not paying artists, though. Why would Apple pay users to switch to their service? No one is expecting them to even pay artists more than Spotify during the 3 month trial. The problem is that they're paying nothing. Zero. Nada. For 3 months.

I think they're implying they're paying consumers to switch to apple indirectly by offering 3 months for free. Well, they'd be "paying consumers" by paying artists during that 3 months.

The 3 months is a one time thing, not an individual account registration type of thing.




It still doesn't make that much sense but I see what they're saying with their "excuse."

They said indirectly pay. Not pay them directly. Meaning offering them incentives to join.

And how much money is Apple worth?

At least the Tidal defenders can't say Apple isn't getting backlash.

I don't know why they're all trying to compete with Spotify, well aside from the fact they want the money, but even Spotify has proven that streaming isn't the most profitable business venture to take on.

Steve Jobs would be rolling over in his grave if he saw that instead of innovating, Apple is just ripping off an already existing model.

Then don't offer a 3 month trial

Loss leader products are something you see everyday. Especially on big holidays they entice you in to the store with huge sales and hope they can cover the loses when you buy other goods at regular price.

The most classic example of a loss leader is a bar that offers a free lunch but you have to purchase a beer or drink with that meal. If you don't you get thrown out of the bar. Hence the saying, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch."

Now here is where the problem really kicks in. Huge companies like Walmart would use milk, bread and sugar as a loss leader knowing people will continue to shop there filling up their carts with other goods. This practice killed the smaller mom and pop shops and other lesser chains because they could not take a lose day after day on basic food stuffs. This is why they put antitrust or anticompetitive laws in place.

It's not just the store owners that get crushed but the suppliers as well read up on the Vlasic 1 gallon jar and how it forced the company in to bankruptcy in 2001.

Apple music will count towards streming for the charts right

It is Apple music's choice to have free the months, not the artists, so Apple should be paying the artists. No budget is such a poor excuse, they can easily move fund from one end of the company to another
