Also, I'm a little confused by the problem, can someone explain? I mean, it's not like the artist's entire income will be cut off for three months, but rather one minute piece of its total. Apple Music is new, so it's not like they will be losing income they previously had, but more like waiting three more months for potential income to come in. It really doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me, but I'm probably missing something...?

Artists are not getting paid for three months for anything customers stream from their service. That's a long time, especially considering some songs blow up and peak in that time period. Sure, it's not their only source of income, but for indie artists, the ones she is standing up for, it's the best way to get discovered and build a fanbase these days. Three months is a big deal, at least for those who don't undervalue their work and not also them but the hundreds of people on their team. Also, during that time, because Apple is is huge, a lot of people could switch to streaming and in those figures, many people that pay for music would be included so the amount of people buying music from artists would continue to decrease, maybe even more rapidly, thus indirectly decreasing the artists' revenue even more. Three months without pay is extremely ridiculous.
