I get what you're saying, and "mentally ill" shouldn't be used by the media to excuse and ignore the reality of massacres caused by white shooters. It's appalling how white shooters will be called "mentally ill" and black shooters will be called "thugs" or something similar.

That said, mental health is an issue that is also ignored at large and needs more attention. And anyone who would lead this is almost certainly mentally ill.

OT: Does he want a trophy for almost not slaughtering nine people? Put him in an institution or jail for life without parole.
