Dothraqui's mentallity is very diferent from any other in westeros. Before his death, khal Drogo was the greatest khal ever, his khalasar was the richest, the strongest. So Daenerys, being his queen/khaleesi, was also a big deal. The tradition for the khaleesis-(dothraqui queens) was to go into a valley where all the old khaleesis from other khalasars lived, to end up their days in wealth and pride, among dothraquis servants and sharing their experience and wiseness among them.
But she didn't and that's why the khalasar imploded.
If the Dothraquis would find out that she had married another man after Drogo, and moreover, this man was not a dothraqui, it would be the end for her. Because the dothraqui people would believe this to be a tremendous offense.

Something I saw on Tumblr though made me think twice about the final shot of him from above as he's lying dead in the snow, like as the camera pans in on him if you look in his eyes there's a light reflected in them that grows bigger as he dies? People have been interpreting that as something to do with the Lord of Light. I'm not sure how much I buy into it but it would certainly make for a clever if not extremely subtle foreshadowing.
