I haven't played any of them in a while but Sims 3 is definitely my favorite. I love the way Sims 4 looks but I hate how it's not an open world. And do they have toddlers yet?
Sims 5 BETTER be open world. Just combine the emotions/build tools/CAS of Sims 4 and open world of Sims 3
And create an urban neighborhood like New York/San Francisco
The Sims 3 is good if you have expansions packs installed along with more worlds. The basegame for The Sims 3 only gives you Sunset Valley, and Riverview if you got it off The Sims website, but after awhile, you get sick of using those towns.
The Sims 2 remains the best one in the franchise. The ultimate collection gives you more to do than what you can do in The Sims 3 with everything.

too bad your computer must be old af to run it and there's no open world. TS3 runs perfect on Windows 8, unlike TS2.
With all the EPs and SPs for TS3, it's a pretty neat game. However, the worst part about it is the fact that the sims look hideous without CC (hair, skin, clothes), and even with CC they sometimes look alright at best.
The open world was great in theory, but it had a lot of issues with assigning sims to the lots you visited. I have a good computer and sometimes I'd only get 2 or 3 other sims on the same lot - it's not vibrant at all. (P.S Appaloosa Plains was the best world, Sunset Valley who?)
The CASt tool was amazing, truly the one thing I really miss from TS3. It gave you so much creative freedom and made sure that houses/sims didn't look the same.
That being said, I much, much prefer TS2's gameplay, but the overall look in TS4. I don't feel like I need to download CC in TS4 because the default clothing + hair are good enough. TS2 was the best installment of the franchise because it was truly sandbox mode and everything wasn't dumbed down the way it is in TS3 and TS4.
Overall I have to give it to TS2. TS4 would get my vote if we had toddlers but we don't, so...
I love The Sims 3, but I think Sims 2 wins for me just because of Pleasantview. I really love the characters in that neighbourhood and the fact they all have a backstory involving other residents.
