You know Spotify isn't the only way of streaming, right?
Are YouTube and VEVO views that big a factor on the Billboard Hot 100? It's not like the song is available elsewhere for on-demand streaming. Just out of curiosity.
Pre 2000s chart life was much shorter in general since sales were from stores. After a single wasn't the single anymore they took the single out of stores. It's not like now when a song is still digitally online 5 months later of course.
And in 2000's when American Idol debuted #1 yearly they got no AirPlay. So as the sales slipped they fell right off the chart.
Basically she outdid only the digital era ones fairly. That was due to an era of strong longevity that is much bigger than the other eras with #1 debuts.
Kinda like asking why Taylor had more charting songs than pre-digital era artists. It's only fair to compare digital era artists with each other.
Obviously? The fact that it still can chart and compete with songs that are available on every streaming platforms should tell you something.
So you agree that youtube (which counts for streaming) also contributed to the song getting success. And I never said the song wasn't a big hit, I just said it easier to break these type of records nowadays due to the new Billboard formula.

Actually discrete mathematics says that statement isn't always correct because it depends on several types of predicaments.

If it's easier, then it's easier for everybody. Then how is Taylor, who doesn't even have help from Spotify, the only one doing it?

Of course it's easier for everybody, you have several songs that charted on Hot 100 mostly because of streaming, and like I previously said, it's easier if you are an A-list artist with a huge follow up (especially with young teens) and you have a cliché pop song about haters with catchy lyrics.

Actually everyone is doing it.
See how Rihanna, despite having less top10s than artists like Janet, Mariah and Madonna have spent more weeks in the top10 / hot100 thanks to new rules. Hit songs usually only stayed on the chart like 20 weeks or so.
But congrats to Taylor i guess since since having a lengthy #1 debut is no easy feat!
