Video is so biased and ignorant. We may have differences and a cultural gap, but we don't hate Haiti. Haitians have been coming and going freely to this country to commerce, work and live for decades. Some markets in this country are mostly full of Haitians merchants who sell medium-to-poor quality and used products. Just because the country now wants to regulate the migratory status of every single resident it doesn't mean we want to kick Haitians specifically, they just happen to be the majority of people with an irregular migratory status.
Want to know why this migratory regularization project is such a mess? Because most of these Haitians have been living in DR completely undocumented and born without a name from their own country. Any person born in Dominican Republic that doesn't have at least one Dominican parent is not Dominican according to our Constitution.
The regularization ran for a year, now it's over and people who didn't get their documents can be deported. That was a warning on the
Plan, Article 4.
International press has been talking about "hate crimes." What they don't report is that one (in my city) was done by
two other Haitians over money and another was attacked for
burning our flag. Why don't they talk about Haiti's
president interest in unification of the island? Or how Haitians
vandalize our embassy in their country?
Also, even if some Domincans say dumb stuff like they are "more white" or whatever, you can call us black or mulatto if you want.

We don't care. All you high-horse foreigners do is come with your little charities so you can feel a little better about yourselves because you helped poor oblivious children in third-world countries for a college credit. Then you go on with your life and think all the problems in Haiti can be solved if those racist Dominicans would just say **** you to their migratory laws and Constitution.
These comments sump the errors in that overtly simplistic video:

You got the first part wrong. France and Spain didn't battle for the control of the island, the island was originally of Spain's property, it is where Cristopher Columbus stablished the main spanish colony.
Problem was that by the end of the XVI century and early XVII illegal contraband took place by the french, english and dutch in the northwestern part of the island and later on the island's own civilization took part of it. The Spanish crown wasn't happy with this, so they ordered the Evictions of Osorio in 1605 which consisted of burning down the western part of the island and in result agriculture could no longer take place there, so the civilization moved down to the eastern and southeastern part of the island leaving the western part of the island unoccupied.
Since 1629 the french and english tried taking over the island from that part that was desolated, they took over it by INVADING and SETTLING FOR THE FIRST TIME. At the end the Spanish crown either didn't care for the western side or they didn't take any action agaisn't it since from the beginning they were horrible at administrating their colonies.
In 1678 the french colony to the western side of the island was given its recognition thous making it official through the peace of nimega and later on with the treaty of aranjuez the territorial limits were established. In 1802 the haitians took over the whole island and this has been kept in their folklore to claim the whole island for their own, they even have a say "the island is one and its undivisible", which was said by Jean Pierre Boyer in 1822 and haitians try atributting this phrase to Juan Pablo Duarte, our independence father.
Even today haitian politicians try achieving solution to their poverty by fighting for their citizens right to come to the Dominican Republic so they can be employed here, rather than finding the solution within their own territory.
Last of all, dominicans do not hate on haitians due to racism, 80% of us are black and I myself am black and have never been treated like a minority, racism is not a thing in this country at all. If there is one thing any dominican would hate on a haitian for is because they have minimal to no education and having them here is a problem, since they can't get decent paying job they take violent measures to maintain themselves and/or family, just like it would happen in any other country.
On top of it all, our governments, to the ONE exception of the DICTATOR Leonidas Trujillo, have always cared for what we call "our sister Haiti", recently allowing them entry to our side and allowing them to work without visas, also taking care of the stateless and accepting them as dominican citizens (who mostly are completely haitians and whom their own country Haiti have denied giving them their corresponding citizenship so we take care of them).
Haitian pregnant women have always been able to come to the DR so our hospitals can take care of their birth for FREE, while dominicans have to pay for this.
After the disaster due to the earthquake in Haiti, our ex-president Leonel Fernandez ordered the construction of the University Juan Bosch in Haiti. Wanna know what they did with it? They changed its name of course, to University Henry Christophe, cause it is a shame for them to have a public installation after the name of a dominican president, even if it was a GIFT.
I could go on without an end on things the Dominican Republic does for the hatians and how they treat us back. If anything, they are the xenophobic ones.
So don't try explaining to the world something you clearly don't know about, when you haven't even come to the dominican republic to experience what is really going on.

I am Haitian and I am tired of people saying Dominicans hate Haitian, Dominican have more pride which is true, even born abroad call themselves Dominicans while I've met haitians born and raised in Haiti being ashamed to be called haitians. 90% of Haitians don't know that January 1st is our Independence Day. The DR government is willing to give their citizenship to Haitians descent born in the DR via Naturalization but they refused advocating the are not illegal 'in their own land'? The Constitution clearly states: "One of your parents or grandparents must be a DR citizen".North Korea, China and even Germany, many others have the same law. We must accept . Haitians =! [not equal to] Dominicans.

I'm dominican, black and I live in Santo Domingo, I will invite anyone here so you can see how haitians are doing, working all day and nobody cares or mess with them, also they keep coming, so aparently they're not doing that bad... HOWEVER, this is the only country that has to stand some group of ilegal imigrants to burn our flag and not to be able to do anything about it cause the international comunity will argue about "human rights" and I'd like to see some group of mexicans , or dominicans burning the US flag while in the US, and they will go to jail for sure.... The real problem here is that we live with enemies that are taking the best of us and at the same time they try to damage our image with the whole world, I repeat, I invite ANYONE to DR to see how they live here instead of talking crap with no knowledge of what's actually going on in here.
