Welcome castaways to your 7th Results Show! Below will be the rates of each entry from all four judges. You were all rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Your average score will be added into a tribe average which will determine which tribes are losing a member.
After I post the scores, I will give you all a few minutes to look them over before I post the final results which will include how you ranked on your tribe, against all castaways, and finally the overall tribe rankings this round.
Meanwhile, the fifth duel of Redemption Island will be coming after I post normal results.
Only the losing tribe will be heading to Tribal Council. However, if you placed 1st on that tribe's ranking, you are immune.
With that said, here are the scores...
Tribe Mawimba
1. Golden - Florence + The Machine - What The Water Gave Me
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - I see the song as being about death from the "lay me down" lyrics and the references to overflowing. Sonically, it's okay but it's not as smooth as what I would personally connect water with on a musical basis. The track is solid for this round but it does take a bit of digging to get to the meaning so it could hurt you for that reason.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 5 - Sonically, it’s not one of the strongest, it’s too choppy to feel like water. In the beginning, I hear a sort of dripping-type sound so there’s at least that. Lyrically, I don’t see anything related to water other than the words “water” and “overflow”. I can’t find a real meaning behind it, so I definitely don’t see any of the rebirth, cleansing, etc. themes that we’re looking form.
|
Quote:
Yvess - 9 - Cool song. The water vibe is truly evident on the song's sound.
|
Quote:
Mario - 8.5 - Great fit sonically but lyrically a bit different from what you had to do.
|
2. dwuw - Taylor Swift - Clean
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - This song's instrumental literally reminds me of sitting outside your window on a rainy day so it's a great fit there. Lyrically, it represents Taylor's rebirth as a person after experiencing a break up so it's more of a spiritual rebirth on her part. She's grown as a person and that is a direct representation of water symbolically. Nice choice even if you had no idea what you were doing, dwuw.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - Although I don’t care for this song, I can definitely see how it sonically and lyrically relates to the theme of water. I think the instrumental could be a little bit stronger, some of the Imogen Heap-esque beats throw it off a little for me, but otherwise it’s very strong!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 9 - Rebirth. Nailed it.
|
Quote:
Mario - 10 - The lyrics talk of a rebirth and even the sound of the song reminds me of water flowing. Great pick.
|
3. T-Swizz - Hilary Duff - Come Clean
Quote:
Dylan - 8.5 - Lyrically, it's strong due to the whole cleaning theme that is very much a part of the water archetype. Sonically, I feel it flows to an extent but gets a bit too fast tempoed/noisy in some parts. Pretty good choice Swizz though you weren't the only one to think of it.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - Lyrically, this is one of the strongest with it’s theme of washing away the past and getting a fresh start. Sonically, this one is too rock-oriented to be perfect. A good choice, but the instrumental keeps it from being perfect.
|
Quote:
Yvess - 9 - Nice throwback
|
Quote:
Mario - 9 - It's all about a metaphorical death and rebirth, I just wish the sound was a bit less hard-hitting.
|
4. Ares - Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
Quote:
Dylan - 7 - I guess it could have something to do with redemption but the lyrics aren't very clear. I take it as a song about not letting life get you too down and just getting back up and doing it all over again which is redemption in a way. Sonically, I'm not a fan because it's so noisy and not at all flowing like what I would associate water with on an instrumental level. Just an okay choice for me Ares.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - It’s not really fair because, at a first glance, the lyrics wouldn’t have made sense to me, but because this is one of my favorite songs ever, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about them and what they mean. I see it as a song about redemption and purity in a way, which works well with the theme of water, and sonically it’s strong until the end, when it gets a little too rock-y for the theme. Great choice!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8.5 - Love this song from Coldplay. I love the message.
|
Quote:
Mario - 6 - The song speaks about a fight to turn your life to the good side. Water being mentioned in the track doesn't necessarily make it fitting for this challenge.
|
5. Bloomers - Thrice - Open Water
Quote:
Dylan - 9.5 - You took a different route and I actually rather enjoyed it. Sonically, it's the perfet representation of water. The song seems to have either a religious meaning or just a meaning about creation in general and as you probably noticed, the mystery of creation is something water is associated with on a symbolic level. The track is mysterious and while the lyrics are a little tough to get at first, I think it's a nice fit along the idea of creation. Cool choice Bloom Bloom.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - I don’t totally get it lyrically, but I get enough to see that it relates back to the theme of water centrally. Sonically, it’s perfect. Awesome choice!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8 - Just average for me when it comes to the lyrics department. The instrumental made up for it.
|
Quote:
Mario - 8 - The lyrics were a bit confusing in regards to this theme but I could hear water flowing while hearing the song.
|
6. Sebas - Carrie Underwood - Something In The Water
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - It's about spiritual rebirth for sure so lyrically you're definitely on point. Sonically, the track builds up well somewhat like a wave if you will but it does have its moments where it loses its tempo due to Carrie's lovely but loud vocals. Still, a very good choice Sebas!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - Lyrically perfect, all about rebirth and revelation. Sonically, very light and that works well, but there are moments during the chorus where it loses the flow. Awesome choice!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 9 - Yaaaas. CARRIE slays in this song!
|
Quote:
Mario - 9 - A literal baptism is being narrated so a great lyrical fit but the sound wasn't even close to recall images of water in my mind.
|
Tribe Dalgani
1. Guero - Johnny Flynn - The Water
Quote:
Dylan - 7.5 - It seems to be about death or suicide so I guess the pleas for the lord to take him would have something to do with resurrection though usually water is more of a death and rebirth package deal more so than focus on the death itself which is where the entry fell flat a bit. Sonically, it's fine but there's nothing too flowing or too noisy about it. Just a very average entry in my opinion.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - Sonically, it works very well. Lyrically, I wish I didn’t seem to be so depressing and about suicide, because I can see moments that work with a theme of maybe resurrection but it’s not overwhelmingly about that. Good choice!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 7.5 - It just didn't stood out for me. Not that bad tho.
|
Quote:
Mario - 9.5 - I'm not sure I got this correctly since the lyrics are quite cryptical but I think it talks about going through the stages of life, right? This song gave me the chills, not gonna lie, but it felt something in the sound to be a 10.
|
2. Element - iamamiwhoami - Fountain
Quote:
Dylan - 10 - It reminds me of the ocean waves sonically in the way the instrumental picks up and backs down but contains its flow regardless. Lyrically, it's a spiritual song that has to do with cleansing and rebirth and those two elements are definitely associated with water. Really cool choice for the round.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - Sonically perfect, it very much has the water feeling I looked for. Lyrically, I love the image in “No more weight on your conscience, with ease, I go back to the start”; it feels very much like it has the water element in it. Awesome!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 9 - No need for you to explain your choice. LIKE IT!
|
Quote:
Mario - 10 - I had not a single doubt you would have done great with this challenge, given your famous Musical Chairs game about elements. One of the first song that had come to my mind when Dylan posted the challenge.
|
3. Bey_RihStan - Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - Rather Be
Quote:
Dylan - 6 - I guess the lyrics could have to do with the flow of time but that's really it here. It's a lovey dovey track that I don't feel has any cleansing attributes to it. Nothing is really changing here. I also am not a fan sonically as it's a bit too upbeat to fit in with the flow of water. It flows in a dancey way but not in in the smooth way i feel a good ol R&B track could have done. Just not a very good choice for this round Kaeli.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 6 - I can appreciate the sonic elements of it that feel like water; the violins work well in that theme. The piano makes it stray from a water feeling for me, and lyrically, I don’t see anything that relates to the water element. It just seems like a regular love-y type song. One of my favorite songs, but it doesn’t really work here.
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8.5 - The overall production of this song fits the watery vibe of your element. Cool choice.
|
Quote:
Mario - 5.5 - Even if the song sonically fits, the lyrics are just about an unconditional love towards someone or something.
|
4. wesleywalrus - Jack Johnson - Monsoon
Quote:
Dylan - 7.5 - This seems to just be about not letting life's stress take a toll on you and to just keep moving. It uses a water metaphor to do so but I can't help but feel like that cleansing aspect is trivial compared to other entries' cleansing themes. What saves this from sinking is the instrumental does flow well enough to fit the sonic vibe of water. Okay choice wesley.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - Sonically, it feels like a lazy river flowing along on a hot summer day. Is that weird? It works. Lyrically, I don’t really understand what it’s about so it’s hard for me to fit it with the element of water. The water images it uses are strong, but it’s not as obvious as I need it to be.
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8 - Average. Not that bad. Not that great.
|
Quote:
Mario - 7.5 - This is surely related to the cycle of life element in water but this piano-bar sound is just too much.
|
5. Mariah4life - Ed Sheeran - Make It Rain
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - Lyrically, it's spot on with the theme of rebirth and letting the rain wash him of all unpure things in his life. Sonically, it's a little too loud for my taste but it flows decently enough to be a solid entry for this round. You knew what you were doing at least.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - Lyrically, I love the themes of the rain washing him and rebirth, I feel like it works really well with the element of water, but this one misses the boat for me sonically. It feels very sharp. Still a good choice!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8 - Thanks for sending this Ed Sheeran track.
|
Quote:
Mario - 6.5 - This song has that typical anger you can find in soul that makes it hard for me to relate this to a water sensation. The lyrics are about purification but it's more like he's asking for that to happen.
|
Tribe Strujala
1. prezli - Conchita Wurst - Pure
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - Lyrically, the song fits perfectly with the theme of purity. Sonically, it flows well as a whole despite getting out of flow every once in awhile. It's a fairly new song I see. Well lucky for you it was released at the perfect time to get you a nice score.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - Lyrically, the theme of purity fits perfectly with this theme. Sonically, it’s not quite as subtle as I think a water-sounding song should be, but it still fits well in a certain way. Great choice!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 9.5 - Love the song. The purity asoect of the water element is briefly explained.
|
Quote:
Mario - 9 - I see you wanted to test me, prezli. You do you!
|
2. rl231 - Florence + The Machine - Never Let Me Go
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - This girl is so annoying like just tell me what you're thinking I don't want to dig for it. Sonically, I think it's a fine fit and lyrically I see it to be about the unconscious but I'm just not sure what aspect of that theme it ties along with. The imagery is there it's just not as blatant as it could be and that seems to be a thing with Florence. Still, solid choice.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - Sonically very strong, I feel like it embodies the water sound very well. Lyrically, I appreciate the water images and can see how some of the theme relates back, but it’s not as obvious as it could be.
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8.5 - I like this song!
|
Quote:
Mario - 10 - Flo taking me to church. This is so spiritual (imo, forgive me if it isn't) and really gives me that cleansing deriving from the water vibe.
|
3. Rider - Justin Timberlake - Blue Ocean Floor
Quote:
Dylan - 7 - Sonically, one of the best entries this round. But lyrically, I don't see any real theme of water beyond it. He uses metephors of water to describe how he'll always find this girl despite her feeling alone but that doesn't really have anything to do with any major theme of water. It relates to water but not in the archetypal sense.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 7 - Lyrically, I can see the metaphors and references related to water, but I don’t see a theme that relates to the element of water very strongly. Sonically it works very well, so overall it’s not a bad choice!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 7.5 - An ok choice.
|
Quote:
Mario - 8 - The sound is SO perfect but, despite all the oceanic and water metaphors, this seems just a love song to me.
|
4. Ivory. - Britney Spears - Alien
Quote:
Dylan - 6 - I don't get this one. Sonically, it sounds straight out of space which makes sense considering the alien metaphor present in the track. There was no requirement to include water metaphors in this round but using the polar opposite is really odd. Lyrically, I guess you could say shes found herself so it's somewhat related to rebirth but it's quite minor. You took a risk and unfortunately I'm not feeling it so much Ivory.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 6 - Although there are some sonic elements that I can connect with the water theme, it largely doesn’t fit sonically and doesn’t fit at all lyrically. It’s like all about space, where does the water theme come in?
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8 - You stan for Britney, I can see that. You even saw the water element on this song. Kudos for taking a risk.
|
Quote:
Mario - 9 - Britney's most personal song yet ™ is an anthem to overcoming your struggles and finding happiness. Unlike Rider's entry, though, here the lyrics are spot on but the sound is too upbeat to remind me of water.
|
5. Bitchcraft - Ashanti - Rain On Me
Quote:
Dylan - 7 - Sonically, it's just a standard R&B track rather than it actually having a water-like flow to it. As for the lyrical meaning, it's about praying that the lord will "rain over you" meaning take away your pain and sorrow. So, in that sense, it does represent cleansing. I just wish she was actually being cleaned and not asking for it. It works okay in my opinion but there were far better options.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 5 - Sonically it doesn’t sound water-y at all to me, it’s very choppy and busy, aside from the chorus that has some moments I think work. Lyrically, I don’t see how it relates to the element of water at all, the reference to the rain is the only thing I can see. Not a very strong choice, sorry!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8 - Ashanti sounds good on this song.
|
Quote:
Mario - 4.5 - The sound is rather sensual than watery while the lyrics are about a guy who treats her bad.
|

With all due respect to you Ethan, but I think this scoring of a 5 is absolutely ridiculous. Florence literally insinuates water is the source of our lives in this song. Water is a natural power that can give or take away life. (death)
It embodies one or more of the given definitions in the task. I can understand you not finding the song smooth enough, sonically that is, for a water-themed task, and that's the risk I took, but lyrically I nailed this round. At least that's my opinion.
Either way I'm OK with my score and happy to see my Tribe @ #1. I'm glad we have 4 judges.
EDIT: The last sentence sounds too shady. I don't mean it like that. I understand there are 4 completely different judges with each their own opinion. I'm just bummed because I thought I did well with this entry and I was surely not expecting a 5. So by all means, I'm not trying to attack Ethan or any other judge.. Just hope y'all can understand my side of the story.

Redemption Island: Duel 5
Current Redemption Island Residents
genetic fail |
Capital B |
Hello, genetic fail & Capital B to the fifth Redemption Island Duel. Last duel, genetic fail came out victorious eliminating both Flame Beat & XL in the process. Can he do it again? Or will Capital B end his Survivor journey as we know it? Now is the time one of you moves forward in the game, and the other is officially sent packing.
Let's see what you both brought to the table this duel...
The Entries:
1. genetic fail - Enya - Wild Child
Quote:
Dylan - 9.5 - Sonically, it's one of the best entries here with that total elemental feel to it. Enya in general is a very spiritual artist. Lyrically, it seems to be about just enjoying life despite obstacles which tackles the theme of purity and bliss in that sense. One of the best songs submitted this round, genetic!
|
Quote:
Yvess - 9 - Enya is so elemental. That's what I get from her songs. Wise pick.
|
Quote:
Mario - 10 - QUEEN Enya! The sound of the song IS water, even the way she sings it and her vocals are edited makes it feel like that. The lyrical theme is deeply spiritual and purifying. Great job, genetiquesse!
|
2. Capital B - Macy Gray - Here Comes The Rain Again
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - Sonically, I can tell you knew what you were doing especially since you chose the Macy Gray cover over the original and it's quite perfect on that note. It's a darker take on water but it works for the most part. I see a connection to spiritual mystery in the song but it has a melancholic vibe to it that that strays a bit from the cleaning attributes of water. Still, fine choice for the round.
|
Quote:
Yvess - 8 - I like this old song.
|
Quote:
Mario - 9 - A great fit but the sufferance in her voice put me off a bit to convince me totally on this. Still a great choice, B!
|
Click the collapse to reveal the winner of Duel #5!
Winner
genetic fail - 9.6
You've won your second duel of the season, genetic! Both of the Redemption Island entries were strong this round, but yours had the extra edge to take the win this time around. You are one step closer to re-entering the game.
Eliminated:
18. Capital B - 9 |
Capital B - It's the end of the road for you tonight B. You've been the strongest player score-wise this season which has helped you but also hurt you in the game. You came to Redemption Island with a strong entry, but genetic raised his game just enough to overpower you this duel. You got to play the game much longer than your original season but I can't help but feel you still haven't been able to get the total experience out of Survivor. Regardless, thanks for signing up again and giving the game your best shot.
