It doesn't relate to the original movie at all and isn't found footage but it wasn't that bad for a direct to DVD sequel. If you have nothing else to watch then go for it... the first movie wasn't all that anyway. [REC] series >>>
It's not meant to be nonstop action and death scenes anyway, that's one of the main reasons it's so highly acclaimed. If you can't enjoy a movie that's heavy on atmosphere then I'm sorry you have narrow taste.
Acclaim doesn’t mean **** hunty, The Strangers is a masterpiece on atmosphere and horror and is one of the most liked movies of its genre by GP yet the critics gave it a **** score. It follows had many creep factors to it but it was so flat and dull, the characters are so undeveloped and you get almost ZERO emotion. Granted it gave good anxiety it just didn’t go anywhere, there was no climax, no resolution. People giving this movie the title of “best horror of the year” need to re-evaluate their taste.

Yeahh, acclaim never seems to matter when it goes against the point you're trying to make if you bothered to read any of the negative reviews of The Strangers, they all mention that it had a great atmosphere and was a great movie in the technical aspect; it got negative reviews because of the cliched story. Also, The Strangers' user scores are average across the board and were beat by the scores of the critically acclaimed and superior You're Next, so me thinks acclaim does mean something.
If you really think It Follows had no resolution then you probably spent 0 time reflecting on it anyway.
What film is the "best horror of the year" then? Please enlighten me, because this and last year has been a disaster for horror. I'm sure glad the critically acclaimed It Follows and The Babadook were here to rescue us all by offering films with depth

if you think You’re Next is superior then you’re setting your arguments aflame my sister. The Strangers may come off “cliche” but it’s realistic and happens all the time and it’s part of the charm. Trust me I spent plenty of time reflecting this with my friends who think its a good film, there is no resolution,
it’s left open ended with the demon/entity following them on the sidewalk, so all we get from it is that it will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
and if you wanna talk cliche then how can It Follows be so innovative and groundbreaking when it’s just another haunting movie. Same as all the other horrors that have been released recently.. Insidious 3, Poltergeist, Annabelle, The Gallows, Paranormal Activity, Unfriended, hell even The Babadook came off as an evil entity movie up until the end, It Follows brought nothing new to the table other than how the entity thrived through sexual interaction. There haven’t been many great horrors this year but that in no way makes It Follows the top tier. The Babadook offered actual depth into her personal life and what fueled her insanity, the characters from it follows are as bland as the last ****ing slice of a whole wheat loaf.

JESUS, if you think It Follows is a haunting movie then please look up the definition for "metaphor". I am not going to sit and explain the whole damn movie for you which you clearly don't understand from your ending interpretation either, when there are plenty of web articles explaining it, not that it's that hard to understand in the first place.
And in what world does the scenario from The Strangers happen all the time? Girl...
It Follows, The Babadook, and The Strangers are all great movies!
I have to agree with Haus though, It Follows is an amazing movie in the fact that you have to take in the film as a whole and make an interpretation. That's why it's so critically acclaimed along with it's interesting plot and the way they created the film to not be set in one exact time period, thus never making it dated.
The Strangers is a great movie as well, the atmosphere and amount of anxiety it gives you is remarkable. But, there was little to no character development and by the end of the film I wasn't rooting for anyone to survive as I had not been able to get backstories and connect with the characters.
The Babadook is another quality film as well as it showed how her insanity and grief can manifest itself in multiple ways (distance from her son, The Babadook itself, her withdrawal from society, lack of communication, etc). You just have to be able to analyze a film and get the bigger picture rather than what an ending tells you. Just let the films co-exist because the fact of the matter is some people would rather not let the overall meaning influence and just let the final act be the end of the story.
Horror is subjective and it is evident by these debates.

Stop trying to insinuate I’m not smart enough to get the metaphorical aspects of films it makes you look petty. And if it isn’t a haunting/demon/entity then please boo, give me an explanation for what you think it was; since you’re clearly so endowed with horror knowledge. I’ve seen it plenty of times and have discussed multiple scenarios about the movie, we clearly just interpret it differently.
and sweetheart The Strangers opening sequence literally gives you factual numbers for the amount of home invasions/murders that occur annually. If you honestly think they don’t happen frequently you need to wake up.

First of all, there's a huge difference between breaking and entering and the type of home invasion we see in the films. Don't you think if sadistic murderers were torturing families hundreds of times a day, there would be some news about it? That **** doesn't happen. Yes, breaking and entering happens all the time but that's not to torture families, it's someone robbing them. If anyone's in the house while it's happening then that's just sad luck. Secondly, all the movie opens with is "According to the FBI, there are an estimated 1.4 million violent crimes in America each year." That's a broad ass statement that includes any type of violent crime.
Regardless, critics didn't like The Strangers because the characters acted like complete morons (among other reasons), unlike It Follows where the characters were at least creative in trying to save their lives.

Your wisdom is much appreciated, now please respond to my PM from two weeks ago.

They obviously don’t happen hundreds of times per day and you know thats not what I meant but ok. Anyway, the torture and taunting that occurred in the movie may not be an always occurring event but don’t doubt that it still happens boo, there are sadistic people out there and their stories don’t always come to light, there are plenty of murders that are unsolved so how can we know the full extent of the events that occur. I also never called the movie boring, or said that I hated it, I just don’t think it’s the best horror of the year by any means.
The characters from the strangers definitely weren’t idiotic, they tried every escape route possible, the murderers were just smart about disabling any means of escape, and I’d also love to hear these “other reasons” as to why it’s such a terribly acclaimed movie because acclaim is all that determines a liked movie
