I think the chess board is supposed to represent the lights vs darknesses. Go to 2:29; I think that represents Sora vs. Master Xehanort. Also, you can see the two golden dices on the side, which could mean that Luxord is one of the 13 darknesses. Just my observation.
All I need is for a complete collection to come out on the PS4, including DDD. DDD was amazing on my 3DS, but I would love to see it amped up a bit before the release of KH3. Having all of the games on one system would be a godsend.
We already have 4 worlds confirmed: Olympus Coliseum, the Tangled world, Twilight Town and Land of Departure (shown in a private event). I'm expecting two more world reveals this year at D23, Nomura said that they had much more to show already but that they had to make the new trailer 2 minutes short.
Nomura said that the chessboard scene between Young Eraqus and Xehanort happens at the beginning of the game. In the private event where they showed the Land of Departure gameplay, the chessboard can be seen at the same window. If you look carefully at the chess pieces, they represent the 13 darknesses and 7 lights (there are 8 light pieces, but Xehanort wins the Eraqus piece at the beginning of the trailer). Let me see if I find hq pics of the chess pieces so we can assume who will be the final 13 members and who will be the 7 masters.
The 13 darkness is what I'm most curious to see. It seems like the seven lights will be obvious: Sora, Riku, Mickey, Aqua, Kairi, Ventus, and Lea. Since I don't think Terra will be fully awaken until after the battle.
For the darknesses we have: Xehanort, Ansem, Xemnas, and Isa. Here for a Disney villian to be a darkness tbh
10 (3 pieces cannot be seen) Dark pieces: Goat (Master Xehanort), Two half gears (Vanitas), Guardian (Ansem), Hourglass (Young Xehanort), Nobody (Xemnas), Moon (Saix), Gun (Xigbar), Rolling dices (Luxord), Wayfinder (Terra), two crossing swords symbol (?)
7 Light pieces: Crown (Sora), Mickey head (Mickey), Ven's keyblade symbol (Ven), Heartless symbol (Riku), Paopu (Kairi), Axel's charkam (Lea), and unidentified symbol (?).
