Another famous name in fashion is speaking out against the current trend of looking nearly naked on the red carpet, once again calling out stars like Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyonce for their revealing Met Gala style.
Project Runway star Tim Gunn, 61, told Us Weekly that he found the the three stars' looks at this year's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Gala to be horrifying, distasteful, and disrespectful to the artistic institution.
He went on: 'I thought it was distasteful, I thought it was disrespectful of the event, and frankly of the museum,' he said. 'I was really horrified. I thought, is this just for red carpet attraction and press? Then what do they do next year, come nude?'
He explained: 'The nude illusion has to be done properly, and that means not with vulgarity. And basically I felt as though we were seeing women who just stepped out of the bath, and it was incomprehensible.'
Tim - who in addition to serving as a mentor on Project Runway also starred in Bravo's Tim Gunn's Guide to Style and Lifetime's Under the Gunn - explained that while anyone can strip down and be noticed, it's more admirable to keep it classy.
'Their nude illusion [dresses] were [like] floats in parade. That's easy to do. It's easy to make yourself into a spectacle. What's so difficult to do is to strike a balance in between, and be radiant and ravishing and sexy and alluring, and have people swoon - as opposed to gasp.'
It's true. They did not look stylish, fashionable or edgy - they looked tragic and attention-seeking. Sure show your body, but in a nude glittery bejewelled dress?
You know what is most surprising? That Madonna, Rihanna, and Gaga were fully dressed/not dragged for being nearly nude. And all 3 have sported the all natural look at different events.
At the very least Bey & JLo have the bodies to work those looks and they didn't look trashy IMO. And it's not like they haven't worn classy gowns at other events. But I can understand where he is coming from.
