Movie: Halloween Returns | Filming delayed, here we go again

Horror's best franchise is finally returning to the big screen with Halloween Returns. It was announced today it will begin production in July. (No release date just yet, but probably sometime next year.)

Dimension Films and Trancas International Films announced today that production will start in July on the highly anticipated thriller HALLOWEEN RETURNS, which follows notorious killer Michael Myers . Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton the writers behind a number of the SAW films have written the script, which is a terrifying new installment of the classic franchise originated by John Carpenter. Marcus Dunstan will also direct the film. The last big screen performances for Michael Myers were in HALLOWEEN (2007) and HALLOWEEN II (2009). Malek Akkad is set to produce with Matthew Stein as executive producer. The log line is currently being kept under wraps.

“Michael Myers has taken a long break from the big screen and we know fans are eager to see him return. We are excited to be back in business with Trancas and look forward to bringing one of the scariest installments of this classic franchise to audiences worldwide,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman The Weinstein Company & Dimension Films.

“The legacy of Halloween is something that Trancas is very proud of, and I look forward to working together again with Bob and Dimension to continue that tradition,” said Akkad.

Dunstan and Melton are repped by Paradigm, Underground’s Trevor Engelson and attorney Dave Feldman.
Overseeing production for Dimension Films are EVP of Production and Creative Affairs, Matthew Signer, SVP of Production and Development and Keith Levine.

Ugh. Already sounds terrible.

Give me something like the original. It was so scary but not gory or over the top. If Jamie Lee Curtis makes an appearance, I might see it, but I highly doubt it'll be any good. Horror movies suck now.

Really excited.

Halloween (1978) is one of my all time favorite movies. The sequels have been pretty decent, I never like Resurrection though and I actually enjoyed Rob Zombie's remake and sequel.

Jamie Lee Curtis isn't going to return. She asked to be killed off in Resurrection. And I'm pretty sure this is going to be a continuation of the Rob Zombie remakes.

The 2010 version had different writers attached. That one was written by the guys who did the My Bloody Valentine remake. They didn't mention whether or not this new version will be 3D or not.

I have faith. The people in charge usually do a pretty good job of making sure that each film has that Halloween "spirit", even if the film itself isn't that great. The only Halloween sequel that in my opinion was lacking in spirit was Resurrection. Even with Rob Zombie's remakes, it seems that the producers did a pretty good job of cutting the theatrical version of the film to fall in line with the spirit of the rest of the franchise. Although I enjoyed Rob's vision, and love his Halloweens as stand alone films, it's very obvious watching the Directors Cuts that his vision was very different from the normal Halloween feel and spirit. But like I said, the producers were able to cut around it and give us a theatrical cut that still resembled the other films. Even if the new writers and directors dont do a great job, I have faith that the people in charge will still keep up the integrity of the Halloween series. The Halloween producers would never allow anything completely ridiculous, like Jason in space. The series has always been kept pretty consistent. Even the worst Halloween sequels are still a level ahead of most other slasher movies.

I'm sure I'll watch this but it's not Halloween without Jamie Lee. The Laurie Strode trilogy (I, II, H20) are the only ones that exist in my mind!
