Pure ignorance and lack of any knowledge of the stock market and era that she was hired in. Let me educate you.
Do you not remember the Dot-com bubble growing from 1997–2000 only to collapse 1999-2001? Yes the bubble was starting to collapse 1999 even as it peeked in 2000.
It wasn't just Dot-com's that got hammered Cisco lost 86% of its market capitalization.
When was Carly hired at HP 1999. Right at the beginning of the bubble collapsing.
Who buys HP servers? No one in a crashing economy sending 1000's of Dot-com's to their death. Amazon.com, eBay.com, whose stock went from 107 to 7 dollars per share were not exactly in the let's go buy a 1000 HP servers type of mood. Ford stopped a planned phased renewal of their hardware. I know this because I was there stuck waiting for my new machines that never came. Now repeat this across 1000's of companies and you will get a picture of how dire the situation was for HP.
So in short you literally have no f'ing clue about business or the economy and clearly what it takes to make a really hard decision while running one.
