Here's a theory about music video triology that Lana wanted to create.
WEST COAST -
1) Label didn't want it as lead single, because it wasn't radio friendly.
2) They completely destroyed video concept with editing. If you look closely, at 00:10 you can see heroin. So, basically the video was about Lana leaving her man (that old guy) and getting wild with some gang at West Coast. Apparently, the video should've ended with Bradley and her getting overdosed, but it would be unclear if she's dead or not.
SHADES OF COOL -
1) It's video was planned as direct continuation of West Coast music video. It's supposed to explore Lana's relationship with the old guy, why did she left him and how is he dealing with her ''death''.
ULTRAVIOLENCE -
1) The original video was scrapped. It was about Lana's lifestyle and abusive relationship with Bradley which included regular consumation of heavy drugs and alcohol. The video would've ended with old guy saving her from that lifestyle.
2) Lana released that iPhone music video just to say ,,F**k you!'' to her label, and decided to sabotage all future promo schedule.

Label wanted to push Black Beauty (Lakechild Remix) as single, but Lana refused to film music video for it.
Brooklyn Baby was supposed to get some kind of homemade video. Same goes for Pretty When You Cry, but it was all canceled after Lana got in feud with her label.
Well West Coast was a horrible choice as a lead single, so they got at least one thing right.
horrible choice? da fuq? it was basically the album's only chance at a crossover or alternative hit lmfao
(not hating on the album, it's one of my favorites, but let's be real, there aren't too many "single-worthy" songs on it, they're all great album tracks)
I think the original concept of the album would be way too controversial and might actually be harmful to her career. But then again SNL helped her career.
You forgot one thing. The original album cover of her smoking. I'm sure her label had a say in that as well.
And where did you get all this info? Is it all a theory?
Also, about the UV video I think you're right and it was scrapped maybe it contained violence or a theme against feminist that would cause controversy which would've been bad as she was already on thin ice with that whole situation. I mean we all remember that shoot in the woods with the white dress and the professional lighting... even her dad confirmed it I think.
Also, what's interesting is I have the West Coast music video version that leaked a day before and the heroin scene is not there. I don't what to think about that.
