A recent example of how close minded the US can be: the song Ai Se Eu Te Pego by a Brazilian singer was a massive hit all ove rthe world (not only Portugal and Brazil, where Portuguese is spoken) except for the US and Australia
Anyway, popularity of Western culture =/= superiority

You see. That's English. Which is the world language. The majority of the world speaks it as a first or second language. So it's nothing special. You can find an English song being a hit in nearly every market.
But like I said. How often will you hear a non European language song or movie being popular in this case Latin America, Europe or the US?
Besides Psy it's a rarity.
And that song you mentioned was never released in the US. You can't get a song popular with no support or release.
