Michigan law allows adoption agencies to say no to gays

Faith-based adoption agencies will be allowed to refuse to serve prospective parents, such as same-sex or unmarried couples, if doing so would go against their religious beliefs in a package of bills that Michigan's governor signed Thursday.

Michigan, along with Louisiana and Mississippi, already places restrictions on same-sex couples adopting children, according to the Family Equality Council, a Boston-based nonprofit that says it represents 3 million LGBT parents.

"Similar laws are being passed to push back against the eventual legalization of same-sex marriage," said Sen. Curtis Hertel Jr., a Democrat from East Lansing, Mich. "You're once again on the wrong side of history."

Why would you refuse a childs access to a loving home? As if there aren't enough kids waiting to be adopted

this is so stupid and selfish of the state, because yes lets let kids grow up without the love and care of parents because thats better than giving them to two same gendered couple who could love and nurture the child? bye.

statistics also show that LGBT couples tend to adopt the most disabled kids too (compared to the ratio from other couples )

I'm glad they passed it now calling for the burring of my home and murdering people. Barbaric.

This is different from other bills because these places receive tax dollars. A legal challenge is going to be filed.

An NC interracial couple was not given a license decades ago and the magistrate claimed religious beliefs. They denounced this law and just wait until they mess with the wrong straight couple(s) and the state will have to work doubletime to fix it. These are taxpayer dollars at work so expect the fallout to be huge.

You're just as ignorant and uniformed as he is. Psychological studies have time and time again validated that children grown up in same-sex households function just as well (and exceed in some areas like empathy and openness) than children reared in opposite-sex households.

Read some of these studies you pathetic excuse for a human being.

Aw, did somebody say something mean about your state? Poor thing, that must be so hard to deal with. I mean there's people facing discrimination and harassment, but you really have it the hardest. Your state never even did anything, except deny people civil rights and treat them like second class citizens.

The bill is bad it hurts the kids from any perspective you look at it. Now that it is signed it's going probably end up shutting down the 17 agencies that are faith based, again hurting the kids.

The only losers in this whole fight are the kids.
